This is not always true. There are some branded phones out there that will 
only except up to a 2GB micro SD card. Some of the older models even 
unbranded will have problems with larger cards.

most phones that take a micro sd hc memory card wil be able to handle 32gig 
card.

When phone specs sate that the phone can take up to a certain size card, it 
can generally take larger size card.

However, i have found that when i use a larger card than the phone specs 
say, accessing the larger card is slower.
How much slower is detirmmend by how much data is on the card, and the 
individual phone, processor etc.
