Hi,

I can see how someone's workflow includes "look at all new notes in my area" and if they don't know about the more sophisticated note viewers they will simply look at the OSM website where they are shown *all* notes - and then despair because they click on the same thing again that has been open for three years.

Ideally we could improve the note system to a point where (a) the community could "triage" notes into categories or tag and filter them, like "needs survey", "wait for summer", whatever, and (b) mappers could also mark notes "as read" for themselves. That would allow a much better collaborative approach to notes.

In the mean time, we should point the "obsessive note closers" to tools like

https://antonkhorev.github.io/osm-note-viewer/
https://ent8r.github.io/NotesReview/

and others from

https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Notes/Applications_using_notes

which may help them with their workflow, without having to close all notes they can't immediately resolve.

Bye
Frederik
