Pfff... the same terminologic debate occurs in English too (as well as in German and other languages). This is not French-centered. Otherwise we would have not found so many English-named primitives in graphic softwares...
Only graphic softwares are concerned (and this has contaminated all software types such as databases here), because they don't want to use the precisely defined mathematical terms.
