Would you require in these cases that the road width is changing exactly linearly from start to end? If it doesn't change linearly, a router wouldn't be able to infer the point on a segment at which a wide vehicle is no longer able to pass, which I believe was your use case for the benefit over minimum width.
How many roads change widths exactly linearly? Not that I've paid much attention to it in the past, but it doesn't seem to be a very common occurrence?
