The wiki's [...] also suggests that "diplomatic" isn't a top-level tag ("In conjunction with office <https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:office>=diplomatic <https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:office%3Ddiplomatic>, this key helps...), whereas https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Proposed_features/office%3Ddiplomatic says "Elevation of diplomatic <https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:diplomatic>=* to primary tag status".

My understanding is that "Elevation of diplomatic=* to primary tag status" was just a counter proposal not included in the final version.

https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:diplomatic contains lots of tags listed as "in_use" where "This tag does not appear in the OSM database".

I saw that you deprecated these pages. If no objection, I will remove the lines : delegation, high_commission, ambassadors_residence, non_diplomatic For the 5 nodes diplomatic=non_diplomatic, some are probably just visa application centers, and some other ones are not clear. I will put a note near each node, asking local people to clarify what it is, with links to the wiki.

But for the permanent_mission line, with 200 objects in use and a link to a deprecated page, do we remove the line ? I checked with overpass, almost all of them are in New York "mission to the UN". What would be your suggestion for these objects ?

There is still a page https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:diplomatic%3Dhonorary_consulate, do you agree to mark it as deprecated, like for diplomatic=delegation, high_commission, etc. ?

An example of an "old" page is https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:diplomatic%3Dhigh_commission . It reads like proper documentation.  An example of a new page is https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:embassy%3Dhigh_commission , which does not.
Do you mean that it doesn't look "proper documentation" ? What should be done ?

https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:consulate suggests "Requires office=diplomatic and diplomatic=consulate on a node". I don't know if you think that that is supposed to be true or not, but it's not how I read the proposal.

That seems to be in the proposal https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Proposed_features/office%3Ddiplomatic#Tagging : * establish formally the office=diplomatic primary tag/key value combination, with the additional tag diplomatic=* with key values of [embassy, consulate, liaison]

Greetings.
