Only 2? That's something of a bonus, I'd say :)
Seriously though, both mechanisms are in wide use for things that take
up a bit more space than a building - there's certainly been discussion
about pubs on the GB mailing list. Both ways are "correct" (FSVO
correct), so if you want to pick one to tell iD users to do, I guess you
get to make the choice. You should be able to get info about each
mapping style from taginfo and overpass, but you'd want to exclude nodes
and ways where there is nothing beyond the building from any calculations.
