The field is standard grass pitch- they just don't accept the eventual damage 
that American football (and rugby, sometimes) causes because of people pushing 
against each other while wearing cleats. This makes a muddy patch in the 
centerline of the field, as opposed to Soccer, where people just run around. 
They even use our local pitch as a firefighter helicopter refilling spot, so 
helicopters are okay too! 

So the field isn't fragile (any more than any other grass pitch), cleats are 
okay, and usage is encouraged - but "pitch destroying" sports are forbidden, as 
the damage is not seen as an acceptable tradeoff to allowing American Football 
playing, as it would be in America.
