You are right about the descriptions in the wiki.

The pictures I have about mast and tower 'in my head' are clearly different from each other - from them, I would call that a mast.
A usual difference I take into consideration is the accessibility:
A tower can usually be walked on - a mast can usually only be climbed on.

Said this, the fire observation 'towers' came into my mind:
Walking around a single pole mast structure:
