A 'good idea'.
This should be much easier to parse - and it's also 3D friendly.
Current Simple 3D Buildings specification basically tells to slice the
buildings with building:levels=* and building:min_level=*, so we
better use this notation.
It would just be good to extend Wiki documentation of building:part=*
to make it clear that the parts can have values exactly like the
building=* (not only "yes"):
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:building:part
for an example of a simple building of uniform length/width ... ?
building=mixed
building:part:retail:level=0-1
building:part:commercial:level=2
building:part:apartment:level=3-25
I and I suspect many others are not familiar with indoor mapping .. and
the wiki does not help the beginner here. But the simple mapper wants a
tag to describe the building= .. without going into the details of what
is inside, the levels, roof ... they want to map the basics and move on.
So they are best served by a simple 'building=mixed' tag and they can
then go on to the next thing to map.
