Not to mention that maintainability is a mess. And in both the site examples in this thread as well as ref=* to describe routes on ways are both problems that are made stupidly trivial with relations. And I know I sound like a broken record but it's time to kill the "ref=* on ways to mean routes" dinosaur like Linux killed ext after ext3 came out... in both cases, nothing rational should be depending on the old method anymore.
