I came across a problem while tagging private properties of people. There
is amenity = school to tag school area but is there any way to tag a land
property that belongs to a private owner (household)

Landuse=residential ? Normally a village/town/city is marked this way. But you could tag each individual property if you wanted to .. But why? If your identifying property boundaries then there maybe a legal responsibility .. are you taking that on?I'd never bother tagging each individual property - too much work .. and who will use it?
and contains building
within that land.

Mark out the building itself as an area and tag building=yes (or house if that is the case). Same as any other building ... This I do for any significant building .. but not for normal homes ..In some places they might be mapped .. but there are large areas of the world yet to have the main features mapped.Having said that .. improve the map what ever way pleases you.

Also how can you tag a private property which is unused?
Same as previous .. with a note 'unused' .. thought what does that mean? Abandoned house? There is a tag 'disused'? somewhere, might be applicable? http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:disused
