Hi All, Despite some of the perceived benefits of this proposal being challenged (mainly in regards to their relevance), the overwhelming thing that was clear was that this proposal was well thought out. Ole looked carefully at the feedback that was given during previous proposals and worked to find solutions for many of them.
There will never be a 100% perfect solution due to the fact that, in the absence of a tag scheme, many alternate tags have crept into use. Despite this I feel it is important to push ahead with a conditional restrictions tagging scheme as it provides some form of standardisation and therefore simplifies the task of downstream users (which ultimately will lead to more use of OSM's fantastic data). To put this into some context, recall that there was a discussion recently (on talk list I think), where it was made clear that the German auto industry had asked OSM how we intend to "close the gap" between us and commercial navigation. As noted by Andy, I do however agree that this proposal (like many others) could slip under the radar of many people. Due to it's potential reach, I would have liked to have seen something posted to the Developer mailing list during the Draft & RFC stages. Kind Regards, Rob p.s. I know voting isn't popular, but it is one part of communications (i.e. giving feedback) and I encourage you to reconsider it if you have so far opted not to vote. http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Proposed_features/Conditional_restrictions
