I guess you're absolutely right, but here we aren't talking about battle phase maps. For example, I've mapped memorial sites related to battles of the Italian Risorgimento, but not the place where the battles themselves took place. Also, I've mapped many plates dedicated to kings, soldiers and patriots, because they're things that are permanently on the ground. On the other hand it would be great to make battle phase maps, but I doubt OSM is useful for this. If I think of the Battle of Palestro (May 31th, 1859), I can name at least a couple of major roads that didn't exist at the time. Also, cities and towns were much smaller then; even the course of the nearby river has quite changed (and it would be important in the battle, as some French and Savoy troops crossed the river and almost surrounded the Austrian army, a crucial event in the battle). You could use OSM's backend as a data manager, but you would have to re-create the map almost from scratch. > richard Regards, Simone
