"I will explicitly tag implied information to reduce the risk of misunderstandings" is usually a good idea. The problem is that this will ultimately mean the loss of all the current implicit flow direction data - someone will come along and insist that the lack of a flow tag now means "unknown flow direction". And, contrary to your experiences, my impression is that the implicit flow direction around here is almost always correct. So, as always, the problem is the lack of a migration strategy for existing data conforming to the current conventions.
