The need to form parallel arrays is not something that can be validated in the OSIS schema, especially if we merely adapt the *seg* element to markup each part of the array.
A location with a *seg* element for variant 1 but no *seg* element for variant 2 will still validate. If we input such an XML file into osis2mod, I suspect that wouldn't detect an error either. So it all boils down to what we require the engine to do with variants (whether ThML or OSIS). If one has also switched on Strongs, Morph, Lemma and Glosses and then one asks for Variants, an interlinear display becomes even more messy, though might almost look neat enough for just the verse text plus one variant. And what when there's more than two vectors in the array? I'm still struggling with the best method to display variants.
