Hi.
Replacing or removing the wrong line endings shouldn't be a big problem.
A simple Perl script would do the trick.
For fixing the "misspellings" we would need to know which they are.
Btw: I tried to generate the OSIS source from PorAA with the mod2osis
tool.
Unfortunately the tool crashed with a memory allocation error.
I do not have much experience with sword itself. Did I do something
wrong?
This is the output:
Deeparsal:~/.jsword asrael$ /opt/sword-1.5.8/bin/mod2osis PorAA<?
xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
<osis xmlns="http://www.bibletechnologies.net/2003/OSIS/namespace"

Hi!
I had already noticed that strange characters that Manfred talks
about in JSword. I would like to help correct the problem (and I
know that it will take time). As I have no expertise in
programming, can anyone help me and teach me how can I do that? I
believe that we could simply use a search and replace tool to fix
the problem of the ending verses, but I don't know how to get to
the source. Maybe one of you guys can get me the source and I'll
try to work on it.
But, if someone out there has the expertise and wants to do the
work himself I can just help to test things up.
Someone a couple of days before suggested that we contact crosswire
in order to know if they are preparing a new portuguese module. Has
anyone done that? If not, can anyone do it or how can I do it?
Thanks,
Jónatas

Hi Jónatas.
I did a bit of research and found out that each verse ending has
two strange characters which are no UTF8 characters.
These characters prevent MacSword from indexing UTF8 instead of
ASCII.
In MacSword I removed the characters for each verse on indexing
and it worked.
I also tried BibleDesktop on the module and there you can see the
strange characters (see screenshot below).
What we could do is remove the characters from the source (OSIS?)
- if they are in the source - and generate a new sword module.

Manfred

Hi Manfred,
Sorry about my ignorance, but: Is it hard to change the original
encoding of the module?

Hi Jónatas.
Yes, that's right. This is an encoding problem. The bible text
is encoded as ASCII text and then searched although the pattern
string is UTF8.
But ASCII is not very usable for any language with special
characters.
I'll have a look at it in the evening...

Hi Manfred,
The search can now be used, but there is a problem to it: it
doesn't search the characters that have diacritic simbols (like
´`~^). So, if I try to search Amós (it's portuguese for Amos,
the difference is only the "ó") it doesn't find any
occurrences. I tried it with other words like geração
(generation) and doesn't work either.

Here it is.
Please download at:
http://www.software-by-mabe.com/download/MacSword.app.zip
There still are some bugs with this module. For example if you
do split the view with more bibles then the text of the PorAA
module is not displayed.
Please let me know of any problems.

Manfred

Hi Manfred,
Yes, please send me the new file and I'll test it. (But I
must say that I'm not a programmer, so my testing will only
be useful to tell you about my experience).

Hi Jónatas.
I found a bug that caused the app to crash on indexing the
module PorAA.
But I couldn't reproduce the crash on re-starting the app
with an open book of PorAA.
This is no official version but you can have it for testing
if you want. Please let me know.

Hi Jónatas.
Thx for the link. I downloaded the module already.
Yes, the crashreports would help.

Hi Manfred,
The module is in the Module Add-ins in the crosswire
website: http://www.crosswire.org/sword/servlet/
SwordMod.Verify?modName=PorAA&pkgType=mac
The app crashes EVERY TIME I use the search engine but
NO, the app ALSO CRASHES many times if I leave the module
open, quit the app and then re-open it.
If you want, I can e-mail you the crash reports. Can I do
it to the list or should I send it privately? (can you
give me your e-mail?)
Thks,

I use MacSword and Will (the developer) made some
changes to the search engine that make it much better,
but, due to the problems in the PorAA module, I can't
use it because it causes the App to crash. Maybe if you
can send me that files you talk about I can correct the
module (or you can send me the corrected module). At
the moment I am unable to search within the PorAA
module and the program keeps crashing a whole lot of
times, almost always because of that module. If I don't
use the module at all, most times I work for hours
without a single problem, if I start to use it, I start
to have problems.
If you can give me a link that I can download the module
I can try to trace down the bug, if it has to do with
MacSword.
The app only chrashes when you use the search engine?
Best regards,
Manfred
