Thanks for the lesson in terminal history. :) What I meant by "what linux does" is "the default behavior in linux is to clear the screen, which is what users coming from a linux background are accustomed to." Who is lying about xterm's capabilities is not relevant here (although I'm serious that it's kind of interesting). Ed, what I had in mind for a fix was something more like this: http://people.freebsd.org/~dougb/termcap.src-diff.txt That restores the default behavior and gives our linuxy friends an easy way to get the behavior they are familiar with. If folks agree that this is the right way to go I can also write up a section for termcap.5. I did not change the xterm-clone definitions since I'm not sure what the previous default for them was, but that can easily be done as well.
