Had my first play with these microphones. The Rode NT-SF1 is a gorgeous sounding mic very rich sounding out of the box. I know there were some misgivings on the forum about the Zylia but it's a good mic as well. It's very clean and has a flatter frequency response. One idiosyncraticy is that it has a fixed level for recording. The ambisonic file it generated had quite low levels and I had to apply a lot of gain. Fortunately it has a very low noise floor and didn't pull any noticeable noise with the gain. It really is a 3rd order ambisonic mic, the spatial resolution is a lot sharper than the Rode. I also tried the SPARTA array2sh plugin using the Zylia settings, it worked quite well although it didn't seem as rich sounding as the official plugin, emphasizing the higher frequencies (though from the announcement made by the developers it sounded like they were waiting for an actual microphone to refine the settings).
I really like the richness of NT-SF1 but if I was chasing spatial resolution the ZM-1 would be the better choice. Gary -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
