Mulling this over, Sampo may have hit on it... all the speakers in Martin's array are at 4.5 meters radius, except the one at the apex, it is only 3.9 meters, almost two milliseconds ahead. The precedence effect will draw localization to this speaker and could certainly mess up first-order playback. Dome arrays already sound "up" and this will exacerbate it Both Ambdec and the ADT's FAUST decoders will insert the correct delay. The Ambix decoder is a matrix multiplication only, with no distance compensation (please correct me if I'm wrong, Matthias). A quick experiment is make a decoder without that speaker and see if that improves things. (for AllRAD you'll need to put an imaginary speaker at the apex as well as the nadir).
