Hi
Actually it is not such a hard choice, the crossover frequency should be 80Hz.
The choice of 80 Hz in home theater applications as something of a standard is
not made so arbitrarily as you might guess.
It has a sound basing in psychoacoustics and in the way our hearing works.
The brain (reservation for individual variations) switches over to another way
of hearing directions or actually not around 80Hz.

The challenge is more in building or buying good subwoofers that do not
announce their presence above 80Hz by:
- a large phase delay
- Distortion which generates overtones
- Mechanical or airflow generated high frequency noise

http://www.linkwitzlab.com/thor-intro.htm 4 of these might be the easiest
solution or a good starting point for thinking,
but I have a hard time to believe that not using the W for signals below 80 Hz
will add much, at least in a smallish room.
Adding speakers within 1/8 of a wavelength of each other do not generate a
destructive interference,
And the central sweet spot with 4 corner or center wall low frequency speakers
should be large :-)

Most of the off the shelf home theater subwoofers are not suitable for much
more than
Best Regards
Bo-Erik

Subject: [Sursound] Bi-Amping the B-format

Greetings to All:
........

Anyway, I’m curious as to what others may have attempted with regards to
bi-amping the B-format signal (or whether it’s a remotely good idea), use of
multiple subwoofers, and whether the hexagonal arrays providing height
information should be offset or vertically aligned. As always, I appreciate the
help and insights of the experts and experienced Ambisonics aficionados.

Best,
Eric C.
