I wonder how one can justify such prices. And what motivates authors to make their work available in this way.
Right now it seems even hardline mathematicians and physicists are starting to rebel against that sort of a pricing policy. And while I'm normally a free market enthusiast, I'm not immune to the economic rationale behind network effects and the monopoly pricing they can lead to.
So, how about that little thingy those hard scientists have now started with Elsevier? Or, how about joining Google Plus, where more than one hard scientist who's behind that boycott can be freely followed? My favourite one is John Baez of Week's Finds in Mathematical Physics fame.
