Filippo Fazi's sphere set up in the giant anechoic room
at the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research.

Ambisonic ? Yes an no. Not it the classical sense. 
Filippo's method (IIRC) involved 'extrapolating' the
signals from a 32-ch spherical mic directly, without
ever going via spherical harmonic encoding (B-format).

I think Filippo is on this list, he could probably tell
more about it.
