Hi Folks I've not posted on this forum before but to follow the comments made by my friend Tim before Christmas regarding the early microphone 502.
It is on its way back to its current owner Julian Spear. It came into his ownership from Richard Elan and until recently the farthest back into its history we were able to go (about 12 years). This list has updated this with its early provenance. This microphone has been passed around several engineers who have all meant to 'do something with it', myself included & never got round to it. Fortunately for posterity this did not include 'doing something to it' and it escaped the frequently bestowed attention on old or redundant plant by enthusiastic teenagers with screwdrivers. I have seen first hand the ravages caused to our national broadcaster by reorganisation /streamlining/ rationalisation of equipment, premises & people by greatly respected accountants & very senior miss-managers, with skips, sales and auctions full with 'redundant' equipment, premises sold off & skilled craft people sacked. Nostalgia does have a way of filling the garage! So back to this microphone, It is time it found a more appreciative and knowledgeable home, and this forum would seem to be the place to offer it as first refusal. Its working condition is unknown, and the only missing item would seem to be the multi-way cable to the mic head although suitable 6 pin XLRs have been found. It as described by Tim in his posting in Vol 29 issue 13, it does have a spherical windscreen. I would think Julian would be open to offers of around £700.
