> (may I add that I would not consider WFS a panning technique?)

I guess ViMiC can not be categorized as a panning technique either, as it also
uses delays. For me the more interesting question is what techniques are
available, what are the assumptions of them, how can I use them and how/when do
they work?

Jan Schacher once expressed the possibility of using different spatial audio
techniques as having different brushes when painting, all with their particular
characteristics and potentials. I find that a meaningful analogy.

>>> This brings the number of 3-D audio panning

>>>
>>>   DBAP -- Distance-Based Amplitude Panning
>>> VDP -- Vector Distance Panning
>>>   VBAP -- Vector-Based Amplitide Panning
>>>   Ambisonics

>>
>> WFS - Wave Field Synthesis
>> ViMiC - Virtual Microphone Technique
>> AEP - Ambisonics Equivalent Panning

Another (non-panning) technique I forgot the other day is

DirAC - Directional Audio Coding
