Some months ago, I ceased being able to get the Internet rebroadcasts of
ABC World News shows via my 64 bit Win 7 PC. I don't remember exactly
when this problem first arose and don't know if the problem was
engendered by a newer version of SM or by something ABC did. I seem to
be able to get selected ABC News video streams and some other news
rebroadcasts.
From some of the error messages I have been able to see when I ABC
World News doesn't work, it appears to me that the problem may have
something to do with "long-running scripts" gumming up things but I am
not sufficiently knowledgeable to figure out what is really going on.
Help and step-by-step instructions on how to remedy this problem would
be deeply appreciated.
Probably nothing related to the site or the platform that you're running on.
I just went there, and had no problems, after I enabled scripting.
By this description, there's probably something in your profile that's
getting in the way. For this, the first thing to do is try Safe Mode
(Help -> Restart with Add-ons disabled...) Besides temporarily disabling
any extensions, this will also put many (but not all) your preferences
settings back to defaults.
In my own experience, I find that even a one-time restart in safe mode
can be enough to clear this kind of problem. My suspicion is that the
problem is in one of the supporting SQLite databases, and that a Safe
Mode restart can be enough to clear problems there.
If you find that problems go away in Safe Mode, and then return on a
normal restart:
1) Check any extensions that you have running, and disable them. If
there's a particular extension that you really want, then it could be
that there's corruption in the extension, and it's worth deleting the
extension and reinstalling.
2) If you don't have extensions causing problems, one of the options in
Safe Mode is a Reset which permanently commits changes that happen in
Safe Mode.
If you just want to check whether there's a problem with Seamonkey
(although it's doubtful), you could also try using the Profile Manager
to create a second profile. If you get what you want on the alternate
profile, then that's hard confirmation that the problem is in your
primary profile.
