Yes. As I understood the OP's query, he wanted to do a temporary,
volatile edit of the "From:" field for the current message only, just as
I did.
If instead he wants to make permanent changes, that has to be done as
you describe, or else at Edit | Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings....
Well, actually, following your instructions, I couldn't find "Manage
Identities," and that search string returns no hits in the Help file
(which is pretty poorly indexed, so that doesn't prove much). But I
eventually did find it AFTER I went to Edit | Mail & Newsgroups Account
Settings... and selected the account. That first step is essential.
