Hey, Ray, how did your friend move/copy the profile to the new
computer?? I seem to recall if it was copied via a CD, the files in
the profile would be marked as Read-Only and SM *needs* to be able to
write to the files.
Well, of course, the files on the CD can't be updated, so they have to
be copied to the target computer. Once there, the read-only attribute
can easily be changed.
Yes, Paul, you are aware of it, I am aware of it, Ray may be aware of it
as well, but is Ray's mate??
And someone here noted a while back that more recent vintages of Windows
(sorry, I don't recall the cutoff point) don't automatically mark files
coming from CDs as read-only. I just tested it on my Win7 system and
sure enough, incoming files copied from a CD were not marked read-only.
I thought it may have come about with the greater likelihood of files
being copied across via DVD's and/or thumb drives which might have been
what caused the change but you could be right that it was a later OS
version that had the change, Paul.
