Do the math: If a typical indent is five characters (I think it's less) and a typical subject is 30 characters (I think it's less), then 104 characters will show you an entire subject plus 74 characters of indent, or 15 levels. If you use a more realistic indent of three characters, that gets you 25 levels.

I remember in my high school calculus class they began by explaining about limits, and no matter what number we chose, the teacher could choose another that was larger (or smaller, as he pleased). So no matter what layout we provide, you can always devise a subject that won't fit, but that's not the practical target we need to hit. Realistically, how many subject lines are so long and also contain useful information after the cutoff?
