Some of the description texts appear to be misformatted, though. One of the HST surveys has no title (?)

Yes that's because the properties file of this survey didn't define the
title attribute. Should use some sensitive fallback value in this case.

Yes, please. If all else fails, (last part of) URL?

Suggestions:
- a slider to change brightness (range 0..3?) Compare Mellinger survey with the built-in MW brightness... - while waiting for the survey to appear: an indicator bar that signals loading of data. - Allow mixing with Milky Way? Currently you are replacing MW. Maybe some users want to overlay. Add a switch for OpenGL Blending mode?

Yes, I will try to make that next week. The indicator is specially
needed since some surveys take quite a long time to load.

Indeed, this is why I asked :-)

I see the DSS is now integrated. Do you see any chance to allow local installation of - say 1-2 - surveys in field notebooks for offline work? Same goes for planets. If not online, the standard texture must remain available, of course.

I haven't tried yet but it should be possible. I will add some settings
entries to allow to specify custom hips or hipslist urls.

excellent!

I have not looked into the code yet. For synchronisation via RemoteSync it would be required that the survey name must be transmitted as StelProperty.

For the moment it is only exposed as a normal Qt property. Is that not
enough?

Yes, this should do the trick.

I will probably change the code a bit though, to support multiple
enabled surveys at the same time. In that case the api will expose a
list of HipsSurvey objects and then for each there will be a 'visible'
property.

Sounds very good.

Maybe a two-column list with "available" (all available from sources), "selected" (i.e., user preference of maybe 10 most interesting for the user; this should be stored then, of course), with [-->]/[<--] arrows in between (?), and for each selected, have "enabled", "color" and "brightness" settings. (color&brightness can be combined, though). This would allow on-the-fly mixing of multiband surveys, if you draw them with blending. The text description box should be feedable by either "available" or "selected" list entries, whatever the user clicked last.

Best regards,
Georg
