In the STAX Monitor's properties, it appears you have configured the STAX service machine to be 10.11.50.182, however, your system cannot communicate with that system via STAF. Are you sure 10.11.50.182 is the IP address for your STAX service machine? If not, click on File -> Properties and set the STAX Machine to the correct hostname or IP address, or local if the STAX service you want to monitor is running on the local machine ("local" is the default value). You'll need to then exist the STAX Monitor and restart it for it to communicate to the new value you entered for the STAX service machine.
If you submit a request to the STAF HELP service to get help for RC 16, it says: C:\>STAF local HELP ERROR 16 Response -------- Description: No path to endpoint Details : This indicates that STAFProc was not able to submit the request to the requested endpoint (i.e. target machine). This error usually indicates one or more of the following: 1. STAFProc is not running on the target machine. 2. The requested endpoint is not valid. 3. The network interface or port for the requested endpoint is not supported. 4. A firewall is blocking communication via the port for the requested endpoint. 5. A secure network interface is being used to communicate to a machine that doesn't have a secure network interface configured with the same certificate. Alternatively, you may need to increase your CONNECTTIMEOUT value for the network interface and/or increase your CONNECTATTEMPTS value in your STAF.cfg file. So, can you do a non-STAF ping to your STAX service machine? For example: ping 10.11.50.182 Can you do a STAF ping to your STAX service machine? For example: STAF 10.11.50.182 PING PING If not, is STAFProc running on machine 10.11.50.182? For more information on RC 16, see sections "3.1.3 Explain RC 16 when attempting to send a STAF request to a remote machine" and "3.1.4 Why can't my STAF machines communicate?" in the STAF/STAX FAQ at http://staf.sourceforge.net/current/STAFFAQ.htm#d0e930. -------------------------------------------------------------- Sharon Lucas IBM Austin, luc...@us.ibm.com (512) 286-7313 or Tieline 363-7313 From: Prabhat Saurabh <prabhat.saur...@infostretch.com> To: "staf-users@lists.sourceforge.net" <staf-users@lists.sourceforge.net>, Date: 08/23/2012 08:35 AM Subject: [staf-users] FW: Quetstions about STAF capabiltiies My IP Address is something other than what it is showing here (10.11.50.182). STAF provides a PROCESS service that con be used to run a process on the specified machine. The process that is run can be most any executable. STAF itself does not provide any services that manage an image. In regards to your second question, I'm not sure what you mean. An API to control STAF in what way or for gathering what information? STAF provides a SHUTDOWN service to shutdown STAF. STAF provides the ability to return information about how STAF is configured. Most STAF service provide the ability to list or query the things that the service manages. The STAF PROCESS service can be used to run most any command, so it can run commands that gather various information. -------------------------------------------------------------- Sharon Lucas IBM Austin, luc...@us.ibm.com (512) 286-7313 or Tieline 363-7313 From: Brian Luckau <bluc...@sgi.com> To: "staf-users@lists.sourceforge.net" < staf-users@lists.sourceforge.net>, Date: 08/02/2012 04:10 PM Subject: [staf-users] Quetstions about STAF capabiltiies Hi, - Can STAF be used to manage an image of some sort (not yet applied to any running host), for example, a chroot filesystem, an LXC container, other... ? - Does STAF have an API for controlling STAF or for gathering information?
