Hi David,
I confirm that even with version 3.4.4 STAF started as a service is not
contactable from local machine (neither with LOCAL and ssl://hostname) with
a user different from administrator. If started from command line with a
normal user there are no problems.

Another problem is that staf is not stoppable when started as a service
unless contacted from remote server with trust level 5. Perhaps there's a
right configuration even for this.
