This was resolved offline by making changes to the system's network configuration (adding a nameserver to /etc/resolv.conf, or defining the machine's IP/hostname in /etc/hosts).

Subject: [staf-users] Unable to start STAF on Linux SUSE11 64 bit machine
Hi All.
After I deployed SUSE 11 64 bit image (includes STAF) on machine I tried to
start STAF, but this operation failed.
I looked at /usr/local/staf/STAFProc.out file and found following errors:

I looked at network settings and hostname settings - all settings are
correct.
Any help will be appreciated.
