Hi Emma,

I think the behavior you are experiencing from the *Open file* dialog is
related with Open File / File explorer does not show the files selected in
the filter · Issue #22272 · spyder-ide/spyder (github.com)
<https://github.com/spyder-ide/spyder/issues/22272> and On macOS "Save
as..." always defaults to saving with ".R" extension rather than ".py" ·
Issue #22248 · spyder-ide/spyder (github.com)
<https://github.com/spyder-ide/spyder/issues/22248> (that last one was
already fixed and will be part of a future Spyder release). Regarding the *Open
files from Finder with Spyder option, *that seems like a different issue.
Could you open an issue for that over the Spyder GitHub issue tracker page
<https://github.com/spyder-ide/spyder/issues/new> please?

Let us know if the info above helps!

Best regards,

Daniel
