Hi Pedro,

Thanks a lot for your kind words. I decided to choose Python/Spyder over Mathematica several years ago almost exactly for the same reasons you mentioned.

Besides, I like Spyder a bit more than IPython because I don't have to configure things using the command line and/or long plain text files, just a friendly GUI :)

Cheers,
Carlos

Hi Carlos,

I saw your presentation (Youtube posted above) and found it amazing. Newly implemented features like "Matlab cell mode evaluation" and "Notebook functionality" is turning Spyder less programmatic e more "friendly use".

Environments of type "Notebook" present in IPython, Sage and Mathematica (to name a few) are very suited for:
        - Create dynamic interactive short programs (awesome :)
        - "Test new ideas in real time" (friendly workflow)

This is good for many areas (not only in science) and reaches an huge audience (non-programmers).

I chose to use Spyder instead of IPython, Matlab, Sage or Mathematica (to name a few) because is more:
        - Connected to the Python language
        - General purpose, lightweight and open-source
        - Easy to extend it
- Easy to add new functionalities (like a plot wizard or equation editor)

It's good to see that people like you are guiding the development of this amazing tool.

Att,
Pedro Vagner

    Hi,

@stonebig34:Our plan is to have the notebook integrated in 2.4 (to
be released after IPython 2.0, probably in January or February
2014). But I'll announce when people can start to beta test it
    (perhaps in October, stay tuned!).

Our idea for 2.3 is only adding support for Python 3. So yeah, in
2.4 you should be able to run the notebook with Python 3.3.

@Jonatan: Thanks for posting the link :-)

    Cheers,
    Carlos

    Hello Carlos,

    Congratulations for your presentation.

I was especially amazed by the live demo, when I saw ipython
    notebook inside a spyder window.

Will that be available for Spyder 2.3 ? With a Python 3.3
environnement ? Is it depending of Ipython 1.0 ?

    Sheers.

        Hi all,

On behalf of our team, I'm pleased to announce that we are
        going to be
present at SciPy this year with a talk called "The Advantages
        of a
scientific IDE", which I'm going to deliver and whose
        abstract you can
        read here:

        http://conference.scipy.org/scipy2013/presentation_detail.php?id=172
        <http://conference.scipy.org/scipy2013/presentation_detail.php?id=172>

This will be a great opportunity to show our plans for the
        future and to
receive direct feedback from the community regarding the
        things we
should improve on on next releases.

Jed is also going to be at SciPy so we are looking forward to
        meet all
of you guys who are going to be there.

        Cheers,
        Carlos
