Never mind......I should have started in chapter 12 - General Requirements for Storage I need an additional level of in-racks below the top tier of storage.

NFPA 13, 2013 ed Section 17.3.1 - control mode area-density sprinkler protection I have a 80ft tall existing building where they want to install single and double row racks to 40ft of storage of cartooned / exposed Group A non-expanded plastics. I don't see a maximum clearance height between the top of storage and the ceiling in this section. Am I missing something? What's confusing is that if you look at chapter 16.3 (rack storage of Class I-IV over 25ft)you see 10ft maximum between top to storage and ceiling all over the place. Yet if I design per 17.3.1 it is also good for Class I-IV commodities. Thank you, Dewayne Martinez Fire Protection Design Manager TOTAL Mechanical Building Integrity W234 N2830 Paul Rd.
