There is a bit of a caveat or loophole in that the code says “where any portion
of a system is subject to freezing AND the temperatures cannot be reliably
maintained at or above 40 degrees F…”

So, if you can make a successful argument that the area is reliably maintained
at a temperature where the system is NOT subject to freezing, then you can be
allowed to have wet pipe in an area that is less than 40 degrees F.

SPRINKLERS

0C is actually 32F and NFPA states that temperature must be maintained above 5C
or 40F for wet systems.
So if the temperature is only maintained at 2C or 36F then dry barrel
sprinklers would be required.

Hello fellows, hoping you're doing well.

I would like to know, based on your experience, what is the value you consider
as a limit to specify dry barrel sprinklers into a cooler.

Pure water freezes at 0°C (40°F), but in a cooler that is supposed to work in
the range of 2°C to 8°C (36°F to 47°F) is it necessary to install dry barrel
sprinklers?

NFPA 13 indicates 40°F the starting temperature in this table:

[cid:[email protected]]

The minimum exposed barrel is 0 inches for all the exterior temperatures when
the protected area is 40°F. The actual exterior temperature is about 87°F.

If there is no need for exposed barrel length, is this sufficient to assume
that a standard wet sprinkler is appropriate?

I would like to know your thoughts on this!

Have a nice day!
