Arguably you’re performing an NFPA 25 action, replacing antifreeze. NFPA 25 2023: 5.3.4.4.1 Where used to replace nonlisted antifreeze solutions, listed antifreeze solutions shall be permitted to be used outside their listing limitations, provided the temperature range limitations are not exceeded.
The annex material goes on to detail the volume limits and/or calc requirements can be ignored. The logic is that the new antifreeze is less flammable than the old, so spraying it on a fire is more effective until water arrives than the old antifreeze anyway, at least by my reading and paraphrasing of the annex. The system definitely exceeds 40 gallons, so any calculations on it should be done as darcy-weisbach. I feel like I saw somewhere that you are allowed to just swap out old non-listed antifreeze with listed antifreeze without performing hydraulic calculations using the properties of the new antifreeze - that they are close enough. However, I cannot seem to find where that is actually written down. Does that ring a bell with anyone? Am I mis-remembering? Thanks! Matt Grise This message is for the named person's use only.
