The WG LC for draft-ietf-idr-sr-policy-nrp-03 has taken a bit of time to Resolve the comments from Zafar Ali and Stephane Litowski regarding whether: * Spring SR policy draft (draft-jiang-spring-sr-policy-nrp/) should be a normative reference. * The 6man draft https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-ietf-6man-enhanced-vpn-vtn-id should be a normative reference
The shepherd has concluded based on the Spring's work in the October 2024 interim and IETF-124, that: 1) NRP IDs in the control plane are in alignment with Spring's architectural direction, 2) NRP ID passed by BGP in SR Policy Candidate Routes (SR Policy NLRI (IPv4 or IPv6) + Tunnel Encapsulation Attribute with SR Policy tunnel type (15) [per RFC9830] in the NRP ID SubTLV Is a control plane NRP ID. The control plane passage is Orthogonal, albeit linked in implementations. 3) NRP ID information distributed by BGP-LS is also control Plane information. 4) In contrast, the NRP Selection ID is a Data plane concept. The architectural linkage of these two is the purview of Spring WG. Therefore, as the document shepherd, I queried the relevant WGs (IDR, Spring, TEAS, and PCE). https://mailarchive.ietf.org/arch/msg/idr/JdhxHkKiC2EBq56fDW6B8YSbCoQ/ for an objection to seeing the NRP ID described in draft-ietf-idr-sr-policy-nrp-04 as a control plane NRP ID. In contrast, the NRP Selector ID is a data plane concept. Therefore, the shepherd has carefully reviewed and rejected the objections from Zafar Ali and Stephane Litowski that: * Spring SR policy draft (draft-jiang-spring-sr-policy-nrp/) should be a normative reference. * The 6man draft https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-ietf-6man-enhanced-vpn-vtn-id should be a normative reference The WG LC will be closed on draft-ietf-idr-sr-policy-nrp-04 Pending the completion of the implementation report at: https://wiki.ietf.org/e/en/group/idr/implementations/draft-ietf-idr-sr-policy-nrp Two implementations are listed for this functionality: Cisco IOS-XR and Huawei, But the details are not completed.
