when I removed two "\big{)}" from your source, it can be rendered.
0 &= \alpha({\bf det}(X))^2{\bf trace}(X^{-1}(W_1-W_2)) - {} \\
&- n({\bf det}(X))^2 2\langle q^+,W_1q_1-W_2q_2\rangle + \langle
q^+,(W_2-W_1)q^+\rangle - {}\\
&- \langle q_1,W_1q_1\rangle + \langle q_2,W_2q_2\rangle.
It seems the "big" is supported by the mathjax.

I am not good at math and mathjax, are there any typos?
or can you avoid the usage of "big"?
