Thanks for your response. I get the error when I run "make install", and the error message clearly states that it is terminating because I don't have permissions to create executable content with gcc.

Um, AFAIK from my experience with GCC, that error message doesn't mean you don't have permissions, it literally means that the version of GCC you are using is incapable of producing executables.. ie: it's broken because someone to forgot install glibc-devel or something of the sort.
In general, a system needs to have a working copy of GCC, with a complete working copy of glibc to install nearly anything from source code, and that includes SA.
I don't think there's any way to install SA on a server that's so absurdly broken that GCC doesn't work.
