Yes, if you don't have root privs to add *.cf files to the spam assassin install, then you need to add them into your user_prefs file. No, there isn't an include. My user_prefs file currently runs 841K in size, and within that file I have (in order): * control parameters (eg: required_hits) * distribution score adjustments * ToCc header rules * From header rules * Subject header rules * Other header rules * body phrase rules * body word rules * body email address rules * body letter/character rules * rawbody rules * URI rules * Popcorn, backhair, weeds * Fred's white text rules * Fred's Obfu rules * A collection of Emporium rules * Matt's Useless Rules * CAB's vocabulary assignment rules * Virus and Bounce management rules * Personal blacklists and whitelists * Stearns' blacklists (including those I have recently identified and not yet submitted) * Most recent rules still in test/evaluation mode Note: Most people limited to user_prefs cannot create their own rules in the user_prefs file. Well, they/we can, but the rules will be ignored by Spam Assassin -- default setup is to ignore rules defined in user_prefs. I had to build an entire back-end to SA to get my user_prefs rules to take effect. GR> Related question: obviously the "From" field is easy to forge.. can I use IP GR> ranges for whitelists instead of names? I don't think so. I've begun using Received header rules to give spam scores to specific ranges of IP addresses, but I think the whitelist capability is too limited to allow this.
