I was just thinking, I know spam is a big problem, and all that, but
reading the article, I don't know.  I hate to sound schizophrenic, but I
mean, surely these guys are not "hardened criminals".  They're trying to
make a buck in a time when it's increasingly difficult to do so.  And,
again, sure, they're killing other people's computer resources in the
process, and all that -- but think about it:  these computers they're
killing are open to the public.  it's not like they broke into an info
systems department and sledge hammered the place.  Up to 20 years in
prison?  For sending a bunch of email?  Like, I'm sure, everyone here, I
agree that spam's got to be stopped, but is this really the way?  And
note the comment about the software they were hawking -- reading between
the lines, I'd bet that prosecutor thinks anyone who'd use software to
obscure their internet tracks, is just up to no good.
