You seem to be correct in your assessment. I have skip_rbl_checks 0
now in /etc/mail/spamassassin/local.cf on maties3 although the
documentation says that that is the default.  I did not see so far
that maties3 is performing network checks but I did not receive many
spammed emails today either.
