1) AV software generally costs money.

2) You wipe out over 90% of the virus threat with negligible FPs by
rejecting all Windows executables.

3) Like it or not, SpamAssassin is often used as a general content
filter and for some people it's easier to configure than procmail.

4) One could make the case that if spam is defined as unsolicited bulk
mail, mail-borne viruses fit that description and ought to be filtered
along with ads for enlarging your hot teen Vicodin mortgage.

Personally, I drop Windows executable attachments at the MTA level. I
can do this because my domain has very few users, the people I
correspond with don't send me Windows executables, and if they wanted
to, they're capable of zipping them up before mailing them to me. But I
have control of my mail servers. Bumping up the score of
MICROSOFT_EXECUTABLE is a mostly painless way for end users to filter
out that MS trash.
