As always with email troubleshooting, the first rule is

   Get The Headers

If you look at a post of yours when it comes back from the list,
you'll see a bunch of "Received:" headers at the top. You may
have to fiddle with your email client to make these visible, or
even save the post to a file and view it with a text editor.

These headers are arranged youngest-first, that is, youngest
at the top, older headers lower. Each header will have a timestamp
in it, usually containing an offset from GMT so you can compare
the times. These times are the received times at the various
hosts the email has traversed on its way from you to the list
server and back.

By correcting times for GMT offset then taking the differences,
you can make quite a good guess as to where the email was
delayed.

Armed with such a guess you're in a much better position to
post to the list with "Help, your darn list server is taking
and _awful_ long time to handle posts". Or maybe not. Your
plea might well be to a local sysadmin with "How come my
incoming mail is taking so long to handle", sparing the list
the question.

If it is the list, bear in mind that the SA list could well
be huge. And, it's far from the only list on the host that
carries it.

Depending on how much bandwidth it is allowed to take up and how
much processor, and considering that it is being supported not
by my direct funding nor most likely by yours, I for one am not
apt to complain about it even if my posts take hours to get back
to me! I'd politely urge a similar attitude on others.
