Running the milter as spamd user is nice. Create the user,
make a homedir for it, edit the spamass-milter initscript
so its started properly. Check sendmail settings.

But it's not a must, I guess.

Does /root/.spamassassin dir exist? Or whatever the location
and filenaming style you might have specified in the configs.

Last time I tried spamass-milter it wasn't really suitable
for serious use because of crashing and processes blowing up
to several hundred megabytes. MIMEDefang is nice, but totally
different compared to spamass-milter. miltrassassin seems
nice as well.
