On your other mail servers, the user runs some SQL
client to do his database maintenance.

SQL servers and clients don't have to be on the
same machine. Let the users run the same SQL
client on their favorite box to do its SQL
transactions on the MySQL server which may be, but
doesn't have to be, running on the same machine as
q-mail.

"forwarding" has technical meaning in e-mail
systems. Don't you mean, "delivering to port 25 on
the machine running the Exchange server"?
