I downloaded SpamAssassin 2.55, configured, compiled, and installed it. At first it wasn't detecting any spam, but it seemed that 2.44 had already been installed before. Some of the old config files were there, and it was skipping them because the required version (2.44) was wrong. So I uninstalled SpamAssassin, deleted all the config files, and reinstalled.
Now it filters spam effectively, but there seems to be a pause between each mail. The pause is perhaps 30 seconds long, taking forever to download and process 300+ mails. My cpu activity spikes for a short (half of a second) time after evolution retrieves each mail, then there is simply no activity for a long while. This isn't a bandwidth/server problem, since taking the filter out of Evolution returns to downloading ~15 messages a second or so. The config files I deleted when removing the old ones where located at: /var/mail/spamassassin /usr/share/spamassassin Are there any I am missing that would still be holding things up? On the whole I have been impressed with spamassassin. Before I had this setup, I had nearly given up on using this account.
