Hello,

I've been using spamassassin for 2 weeks and it (*seems*) that it caused my system to go down...

The story :
linux RedHat 7.3 - kernel 2.4.18#3 on smp system (2xPII)
perl 5.6.1
spamassassin version 2.55
postfix 1.1.12-0.7

1) The system had been running for 90 days.
2) I installed spamassassin AND pop-before-smtp the same day
3) The system goes down a first time, 6 days after the install.
Symptoms : system is pingable but everything else is down (ssh, smtp, apache, and so on). console is frozen.
Nothing in any log file.
4) After a reboot, system goes down another time 5 days after.
5) I decided to just disable spamassassin
6) System is up for 9 days and runs fine

So, there are 3 options
1) Something is wrong with this kernel
2) Something is wrong with spamassassin
3) Something is wrong with me (my way of using SA)
4) Another crash is pending unrelated with SA

When I installed spamassassin I modified the master.cf file of postfix that way :

line : smtp inet n - y - - smtpd
became : smtp inet n - y - - smtpd -o content_filter=spamc:

and added line :
spamc    unix  -   n   n   -   -   pipe
    flags=Rq user=nobody argv=/usr/bin/spamc -e /usr/sbin/sendmail -f ${sender} -- ${recipient}

used chkconfig to add spamd to my runlevel (3)

Just for info, without SA the memory charge is currently :
Mem:   643240K av,  630100K used,   13140K free,       0K shrd,   57532K buff
Swap: 1309288K av,       0K used, 1309288K free                  381168K cached
So, I would appreciate your advices... Is tooo soon to say "this is SA's fault" or there is a known problem with this configuration (this kernel+smp+this postfix+this perl+this SA)

Thanks you.

By the way, if SA was not SO good at spam killing I would not try to use it again !! BUT it's a DAMN good app that succeed to kill 95% of the spam I receive WITHOUT any mistake !! So.... I NEEEEED IT !!! ;-)
