A p-166 strikes me as awfully light on CPU power for a mailserver running SA on 3-5k messages per day. Spamd/spamc would certainly be needed for this setup, but I don't think that would be enough faced with such a low end CPU.


If you can find one, suggest a P-II or Athlon class system as a minimum.. You probably don't need very high clockrate, but those architectures have significantly improved memory bandwidth and memory caching compared to the classic Pentiums and p-mmx.

SA does a lot of string search/compare so it's going to be somewhat memory IO intensive, and it will reap heavy gains from the PII's L2 cache being 1/2 cpu clock, instead of fixed at 66mhz like it is on a Pentium.
